Apparent steel consumption in Chile declined in 2022

According to the Chilean steel institute (ICHA), during 2022 the apparent steel consumption in the country reached 2.289 million mt, a 30.4 percent decline from 2021 and the lowest volume during the last five years.

Under the same comparative basis, the apparent consumption of flat products declined by 32.9 percent to 1.169 million mt, while the apparent consumption of long products declined by 28.7 percent to 1.120 million mt.

According to ICHA, the apparent consumption of steel products in Chile in 2023 is expected to increase from 2022 by 7.1 percent to 2.450 million mt.
