ArcelorMittal halts production at color coating line in Spain

Tuesday, 14 February 2012 17:07:32 (GMT+3)   |

Luxembourg-headquartered global steel giant ArcelorMittal has announced that it has suspended production operations at its color coating line in Avilés, Spain as of February 13, while no schedule has been announced for the restart of operations. According to Spanish media, labor unions confirmed that ArcelorMittal guaranteed that all affected employees would be relocated to other departments of the Avilés steel complex.

The idled color coating shop is likely to be reopened once demand recovers from its currently depressed levels. The Avilés plant has an annual color coated coil production capacity of 250,000 mt. Commissioned in 2001, it is one of ArcelorMittal's most modern plants.

Last December, ArcelorMittal commissioned state-of-the art galvanizing and color coating lines in Lesaka, Spain.
