Baosteel has announced that in 2008 it exported 290,000 mt of pipes, accounting for 20 percent of its total pipe sales, with the company's pipe sales hitting record heights in the year in question.

During 2008, China's pipe industry faced many antidumping suits from the US, Canada and the EU. Against a background of severe competition, Baosteel says that it tightened its communications with offshore customers via its mature business networks abroad, it accordingly restructured its export products and also expanded its sales in Africa, South America, Central Asia, the Middle East and Australia. Baosteel reports that in 2008 it shipped large quantities of high value added pipes such as seamless oil tubing, casing pipes, drill pipes and welded casing pipes to the Middle East and Australia.

Baosteel states that, following its successive commissionings of several production lines, including middle and large sized welded pipe production lines and a special fastener line, many foreign oil suppliers have expressed their intention to sign supply agreements. In addition, the producer says that its HFW products and special fasteners have been approved by Shell, Conoco Philips, Arabian American Oil Company and Emirates National Oil Company.
