The Brazilian production of crude steel has reached 3.055 million mt in July 2024, 11.6 percent more than in July 2023, according to the Brazilian steel institute IABr.
Under a comparative basis, the production of rolled products increased by 9.8 percent to 2.113 million mt with the production of flat products increasing by 7.5 percent to 1.209 million mt and the production of long products increasing by 13.0 percent to 904,000 mt.
Similarly, domestic sales of steel products increased by 16.5 percent to 1.9 million mt and the apparent consumption of steel products increased by 13.5 percent to 2.3 million mt, while exports increased by 81.6 percent to 1.5 million mt and imports increased by 22.9 percent to 592,000 mt.
Considering the first seven months of 2024, on a yearly basis the crude steel production increased by 3.3 percent to 19.400 million mt, domestic sales increased by 5.6 percent to 12.100 million mt, exports declined by 12.9 percent to 6.1 million mt, imports increased by 23.7 percent to 3.300 million mt, and the apparent consumption of steel products increased by 7.4 percent to 14.700 million mt.
