The Brazilian exports of pig iron have reached 311,700 mt in December against 203,000 mt in November.
The destinations in December were the US (243,100 mt at $440/mt), Europe (56,300 mt at $468/mt), Asia (12,100 mt at $429/mt), and Argentina (200 mt at $734/mt), FOB conditions.
The shipments were from independent producers in the southeastern states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo (277,000 mt) and from the Central-Western state of Mato Grosso do Sul(34,700 mt at $454/mt).
The absence of exports from the northern states of Pará and Maranhão reflects logistics problems related to the rainy season in the region.
These prices were probably negotiated in October, with indications of the BPI grade price in the $419-478/mt range, and the foundry grade product above $500/mt, FOB conditions.
