China’s HRC output up six percent in January-May

In the January-May period this year, China’s hot rolled coil (HRC) production amounted to 90.167 million mt, increasing by 6.0 percent year on year, according to China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

In the same period, China’s cold rolled coil (CRC) production totaled 18.984 million mt, up 22.1 percent year on year.

In May alone, China’s hot rolled coil (HRC) production and cold rolled coil (CRC) production totaled 19.056 million mt and 3.963 million mt, up 3.4 percent and 14.7 percent year on year, while rising by 4.7 percent and down 0.4 percent month on month.

HRC prices in the Chinese domestic market indicated a downtrend first in May, while edging up later, though they fluctuated within a limited range from May 19. The highest HRC price in May was seen at RMB 3,970/mt ($558/mt) during May 22-23, while the lowest level in the month was observed on May 15 at RMB 3,870/mt ($543.5/mt).
