Coal exports from Queensland up 7.6 percent in November from October

In November this year, coal exports from Australian ports Hay Point, Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT), Abbot Point and Gladstone located in the state of Queensland went up by 7.6 percent month on month and increased 3.8 percent year on year to 17.96 million mt, according to data released by North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation and Gladstone Ports Corporation.

In particular, coal exports from the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) in the given month totaled 4.73 million mt, down 11.9 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in November the shipments from Hay Point decreased by 8.5 percent year on year to 2.92 million mt, while shipments from Abbot Point amounted to 3.57 million mt, up 19.0 percent year on year. In addition, exports of coal from Gladstone Port grew by 17.5 percent compared to the same month of 2023 to 6.73 million mt in November.

In November, supplies from Gladstone to China accounted for 27.7 percent of the total exports, while Japan, India and South Korea accounted for 25.4 percent, 15.9 percent and 14.3 percent, respectively.

In the meantime, total coal shipments from the ports in question in the January-November period of the current year amounted to 184.38 million mt, SteelOrbis has learned.
