Commercial production starts at JSPL’s 5 meter wide plate mill

India's Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) has announced that its five meter wide plate mill in Angul, Odisha has started commercial production. The mill producing the widest plate in the country is a part of the planned first phase 6 million mt per year integrated steel plant in Angul.
 
The plate mill in question has an annual capacity of 2 million mt per year and targets an output of 15,000 mt next month, followed by a gradual increase in production. The plant is capable of rolling in a large width range and producing steel grades like structural, boiler quality, shipbuilding and pipeline plates up to X‐80 grade.
 
According to JSPL's statement, the plate mill is a part of its integrated steel complex and is being set up along with the 1.6 million mt per year expected to be commissioned towards the end of the financial year 2012-13.
