The European Commission unlocked the €320 million loan planned for Acciaierie d’Italia in extraordinary administration at the end of last week. The communication was made in a note published by the Italian ministry of business and made in Italy, which also said that the loan will be granted with an interest rate of 11.6 percent.

This fund must be added - as SteelOrbis previously reported – to the €120 million already issued by Sace, the financial and insurance company controlled by the Italian ministry of economy, and to the €150 million granted by the Italian government itself.

In the meantime, the extraordinary commissioner of Acciaierie d’Italia Giancarlo Quaranta announced that the Taranto steel plant is being analyzed to evaluate the sanitary impact of the plant’s production. He commented, “From 2020, benzene emissions went up, but we inspected the situation and we fixed it”, so that now emissions seem under control.
