Russian mining and steel producing company Evraz Group has announced that its subsidiary Evraz ZSMK has started the construction of a new pig iron casting complex, entailing an investment of over RUB 3 billion ($33.90 million).

Accordingly, two new casting machines equipped with eco-friendly technologies will be installed in the blast furnace shop of the plant, increasing the pig iron production to 800,000-850,000 mt per year. In the meantime, the company will construct a new building that will house the casting machines and a lime preparation area on the complex site. Also, in order to reduce emissions and prevent wastewater leakage, an aspiration system and a closed circulation system will be added to the complex.

“The launch of the new complex will increase the production of commercial pig iron and ensure stable operation of blast furnaces during scheduled equipment repairs in the plant’s steelmaking production,” the statement read.

The project is expected to create about 40 jobs.
