Former Nucor CEO: Producers can apply to exempt certain products from tariffs

Dan DiMicco, former CEO of US steelmaker Nucor, has said at a press conference that steel and aluminum producers in the US could file petitions to exempt certain products that are not produced in the country from Section 232 tariffs.

“There will be a process whereby people can apply for an exclusion by product, but they will need to make a strong case that the product is not available here and can’t be made here. People will have to prove the need, and the inability of the domestic market to make it or unwillingness by the domestic producers to make it,” DiMicco said.
