India’s auto retail sales rise 11% by in November, passenger car down 14%

Monday, 09 December 2024 14:21:52 (GMT+3)   |   Kolkata

India’s retail automobile sales as denoted by new registrations have been estimated at 3,208,719 units in November this year, a rise of 11.21 percent year on year, but passenger car retail sales recorded a decline of 13.72 percent to 321,943 units, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Association (FADA) on Monday, December 9.

FADA reported a significant 15.8 percent year-on-year growth in two-wheeler sales, totalling 2, 615,953 units.

Three-wheelers also saw 4.23 percent growth during the month, but commercial vehicles (CVs) declined by six percent, year on year, FADA said.

“While November was initially expected to build on its prior momentum, particularly due to the festival season, dealer feedback suggests that this segment underperformed compared to overall expectations, although rural markets offered some support, primarily in the two-wheeler category,” FADA president C S Vigneshwar said in a statement.

“In the passenger vehicle segment, heavy discounting and improved product availability are expected to help offset weak consumer sentiment and a general year-end lull. While some customers are deferring purchases for new-year models, overall interest could pick up due to aggressive offers and end-of-year promotions. This sets a tone of cautious optimism, with a moderate chance of improved sales compared to November,” Vigneshwar added.
