India's finished steel production up 0.5 percent in April

India's finished steel consumption totaled 5.5 million mt in the first month of the current fiscal year (started April 1), with 7.1 percent year-on-year increase, according to provisional estimates released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) which is part of India's Ministry of Steel.

According to the data, the country's finished steel production rose with a slight margin of 0.5 percent year on year to 7.3 million mt in April. Among the main producers, state-owned steel producer SAIL recorded a rise of 1.4 percent year on year in finished steel production to 843,000 mt, while the finished steel output of RINL rose by 0.5 percent to 213,000 mt and Tata Steel's finished steel output decreased by 3.8 percent to 701,000 mt, both year on year.
