India’s recycled steel industrial usage 25% of total domestic output

The total quantity of recycled steel used in various Indian industrial sectors, including construction, automobile and infrastructure, is an estimated 30 million mt of total steel production of 150 million mt, junior minister of steel Faggan Singh Kulaste told the Indian parliament on Tuesday, March 14.

Of the total raw material used by Indian mills in production of steel, ferrous scrap accounted for 25 percent, he said.  

The junior minister said that the Indian government is in talks with various countries around the world to collaborate on the creation of a common platform of recyclers to promote the circular economy and have a more positive impact on the environment.
