India’s SML sees 59% rise in stainless steel output in December

India’s Shyam Metalics Limited (SML) achieved stainless steel production of 7,889 mt in December 2024, a rise of 59 percent year on year, a company statement said on Wednesday, January 8.

However, the company said that the average realisation from sales of stainless steel declined by six percent during the month.

Speciality alloy production stood at 14,502 mt in December 2024, marking a seven percent increase, while carbon steel production rose by 11 percent during the month to 158,333 mt, year on year.

SML’s sponge iron production declined by 31 percent year on year to 74,305 mt in December 2024, but iron ore pellet output increased by 42 percent year on year to 87,114 mt, with the average realisation falling by five percent during the month.
