India’s Tata Steel and MECON ink deal to collaborate on mining solutions

India’s Tata Steel Limited and Indian government-run design, engineering consultancy firm MECON have signed a business collaboration agreement establishing a strategic alliance aimed to deliver comprehensive integrated mining solutions across various domains, including exploration, mine planning, and environmental management, a joint statement of the companies said on Thursday, January 23.

The partnership will leverage Tata Steel’s century-long expertise in mining through its Natural Resource Division and MECON’s technical capabilities. Services offered will include resource modelling, digital mine monitoring, drone surveys, hydrogeological studies, and cost-effective mineral beneficiation, the statement said.

“We are excited to commercialize our mine technical services through Tata Steel Industrial Consulting. This partnership with MECON will enhance capabilities and elevate the standards of mining services in India, promoting scientific and sustainable practices,” Tata Steel, vice president, raw materials, D. B. Sundara Raman, said.
