Investment in Canadian building construction decreases 0.5 percent in November

According to Statistics Canada, month over month, investment in building construction decreased 0.5 percent to $21.4 billion in November, after a 1.1 decrease in October. Investment in the residential sector decreased by $168.1 million to $14.8 billion in November, while investment in the non-residential sector was rose by $71.5 million to $6.6 billion.

Investment in residential building construction declined 1.1 percent to $14.8 billion in November. The monthly decreases in November were recorded in four provinces and three territories, led by Ontario (-$227.8).

Nationally, investment in detached single-family homes increased 2.9 percent to $7.3 billion in November.

Investment in the non-residential sector increased by $71.5 million (+1.1 percent) to $6.6 billion in November, as the institutional component rose 1.5 percent  (+$27.9 million) along with growth from the industrial component (+30.7 million to $1.4 billion) and the commercial construction investment (+$12.8 to $3.3 billion).
