Japanese imaging and technology company Canon is in talks to set up a semiconductor manufacturing company in India, a company official said on Monday, December 23.

“Many chip manufacturers are exploring India for their next manufacturing base. We are in active discussions to offer our technology and services to support their operations,” Canon India president and CEO Toshiaki Nomura said in a statement.

According to Nomura, Canon’s technology can help build robust manufacturing setups and contribute significantly to the growth of India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

“Once manufacturers establish their facilities here, we will install our equipment and provide strong support to help them succeed,” he added.

While he declined to divulge specific details, he commented, “Canon is optimistic about its role in India’s semiconductor journey. We are in the negotiation stage and have ongoing ground discussions.”
