Vadim Basin, CEO of Kazakhstan-based steelmaker Qarmet, formerly known as ArcelorMittal Temirtau, has shared the details of the company’s performance in 2024 and its plans for the current year.
Accordingly, in 2024, Qarmet exceeded its production targets for pig iron by 15 percent, for steel by 15, for coke by 18 percent, for agglomerate by 12 percent and for rolled products by 17 percent. Also, the company managed to reduce its slab production costs per metric ton by 18 percent compared to the previous year.
In the meantime, Mr. Basin stated that Qarmet has set a target of producing 3.7 million mt of steel this year. Also, its plant will make a transition to natural gas, with the first stage of the project expected to be implemented in the spring or summer of this year.
