Latin America’s crude steel output rises two percent in November

According to data released by the Latin American Steel Association (Alacero), Latin America’s crude steel production in November this year decreased by four percent year on year to 5.3 million mt. The region’s production of finished steel in November was 4.5 million mt, down one percent year on year.

As for the January-November period of the current year, the region’s crude steel output was 60 million mt, up two percent year on year, Alacero said, adding that Brazil was the top producer with 32.1 million mt.

Brazil’s share in the region’s total crude steel production in the January-November period this year rose by two percent year on year.

Latin America’s finished steel output in the January-November period this year was 49.9 million mt, up three percent year on year. The top finished steel producers for the first 11 months include Brazil with 21.5 million mt and Mexico with 17.6 million mt.

Alacero said flats accounted for 49 percent or 24.2 million mt of Latin America’s total finished steel production of 49.9 million mt for the January-November period, with long steel products accounting for 48 percent or 24.1 million mt of the total, while the share of seamless steel pipes was three percent or 1.6 million mt.
