The Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has announced that it has finalized the antidumping investigation it launched on January 31 this year into the imports of cold rolled products of alloy or non-alloy steel of a width less than 1,300 mm from Japan.

Accordingly, the MITI has determined that cold rolled products from Japan were unfairly traded and has calculated an antidumping rate of 9.03 percent for Nippon Steel Limited Corporation and 22.62 percent for other Japanese producers.

The antidumping duties will be effective for a period of five years between September 29, 2023, and September 28, 2028.

Additionally, foreign producers or exporters such as Daido Steel Co., Ltd. and JFE Steel Corporation with de minimis dumping margins were excluded from the antidumping duties.

After the decision, Yoshigisa Kitano, chairman of the Japan Iron and Steel Federation, claimed that cold rolled products from Japan have caused no injury to the domestic steel industry in Malaysia and that the Japanese steel industry will carefully study this decision and determine a proper course of action.
