Manganese ore exports via Port Hedland up in September

In September this year, manganese ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland totaled 191,070 metric tons, increasing 55.3 percent compared to the previous month and up 80.1 percent compared to the same month last year, according to Port Hedland Port Authority.

According to the released information, manganese ore shipments made from Port Hedland to South Korea amounted to 73,070 metric tons in September. According to the port authority, no manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland to South Korea had been recorded in August this year or in September last year.

China was the second biggest export destination for manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland in September this year with shipments amounting to 63,000 metric tons, while Vietnam followed China with 55,000 mt of manganese ore shipments. Manganese ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China decreased by 9.4 percent as compared to August and was up 33.3 percent year on year. On the other hand, no manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland to Vietnam had been recorded in August this year or in September last year.

Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Fortescue Metals Group and Atlas Manganese in the manganese ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
