Mexican government to invest public resources to manufacture electric vehicles

The Mexican government announced that this year it will begin investing in manufacturing electric vehicles with lithium batteries. The estimated production will be three models of vehicles by the end of the presidential term (2030) with a price range of between $4,300 and $7,200, the presidency of the Republic reported in a statement.

By 2025, the investment will be MXN 25.0 million or an equivalent of $1.2 million. The Mexican government said that there will be the possibility of creating public-private companies for production.

In the last five years, the sale of new vehicles in Mexico is 1.2 million units. Currently, there are 30 brands of vehicles in the local market.

The largest automakers with production in Mexico have their cheapest vehicles at $13,500 for Nissan, $13,750 for General Motors and $15,000 for Volkswagen, according to the price list reviewed by SteelOrbis.
