Mexico's galvanized steel sheet (HDG) production in October hit a new high in at least the past 34 months (since January 2022) at 318,000 metric tons (mt), up 6.4 percent year-over-year, according to Canacero data reviewed by SteelOrbis. The new production high for the period exceeds 302,000 mt registered in March 2022, which was the highest level in manufacturing.

Despite the higher production, consumption exceeded production in the local market by 103,000 mt. In October, apparent consumption of HDG in Mexico totaled 421,000 mt, 1.2 percent less, year-over-year.

The import of HDG to Mexico was 144,000 mt, 8.9 percent less than in October last year. Exports totaled 41,000 mt, up 32.3 percent year-over-year.

In the January-October period, consumption increased 1.9 percent to 3.89 million mt, production increased 2.3 percent to 2.86 million mt. Exports increased 12.9 percent to 399,000 mt and imports grew 4.1 percent to 1.43 million mt.
