Luxembourg-based plantmaker Paul Wurth has announced that it has signed a contract for the construction of a new coke-making complex at Russian steelmaker Severstal’s Cherepovets steel works.

According to the contract, Paul Wurth will supply two coke batteries, which are designed for a total production of 1.4 million mt of coke. The two batteries will be of the stamp-charging type and will integrate state-of-the-art Paul Wurth coke making technology such as the innovative smokeless charging system. The new complex is foreseen to be commissioned by September 2021.

Vadim Germanov, general director of the Severstal Russian Steel division, stated that these will be the first Russian coke batteries with a new promising technology, coal charge stamping, allowing the company to use cheaper raw material and maintaining coke quality, and also protecting the environment with the relevant technological solutions.
