Saarstahl Rail to provide low-carbon rails to France’s national rail operator

Tuesday, 28 January 2025 13:53:42 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Saarstahl Rail, a French subsidiary of German long steel producer Saarstahl, has announced that it has received a large order worth over €1 billion from France’s national rail operator SNCF Réseau for the supply of low-carbon rails.

Accordingly, SNCF Réseau will receive an undisclosed amount of low-carbon rails from Saarstahl Rail over the next six years, reducing its emissions by more than 1 million mt and contributing to decarbonization of the domestic rail network.

Being the only carbon-reduced rail producer in Europe, Saarstahl Rail produces rails using the rail steel produced by the electric arc furnace of Saarstahl Ascoval. These rails have 70 percent less emissions compared to rails produced using conventional methods.
