Sea freight rates stable in July for Brazilian steel imports

According to the Brazilian foreign trade agency, COMEX, in July, the sea freight rates for imports of slabs from Russia were $66/mt for shipment to Minas Gerais via Rio de Janeiro, $47/mt for shipment to Rio de Janeiro, $60/mt for shipment to São Paulo, while slabs shipped from Japan to São Paulo were $80/mt.

For HRC, sea freight from China to the state of Amazonas was $47/mt, $38/mt to the state of Santa Catarina, $34/mt to the state of Piaui, and $100/mt to the state of Bahia. However, shipment from South Korea to the state of São Paulo was $91/mt.

For CRC, sea freight from China to Amazonas was $43/mt, to Santa Catarina $37/mt, and from South Korea to São Paulo it was $72/mt. The sea freight from Sweden to Santa Catarina was $45/mt.

For rebars, from Turkey to the south, sale was probably made under CFR conditions, with the importer indicating $4/mt when clearing customs.

The average freight rate for the Brazilian steel imports in July was roughly stable from June at $53/mt.

Such rates were probably negotiated in May.
