German plantmaker SMS Siemag has received an order from ENRC Group's subsidiary TNK Kazchrome JSC of Kazakhstan to build a new ferrochrome works.

The meltshop No. 4 will be erected at Aktobe with SMS' DC (direct current) technology and will have an annual production of 440,000 mt with high carbon content. The melting unit will comprise four DC furnaces with a capacity of 72 MW each.

DC Technology allows the direct charging of fine ores into the furnace, decreasing the production costs. The commissioning of the first furnace is scheduled for the end of 2012.
