Snam, TenarisDalmine and Tenova to test hydrogen-based steel production

Within the scope of their collaboration, the leading European energy infrastructure operator Snam, the global leader in pipe manufacturing TenarisDalmine and the developer of green solutions for the metallurgical industry Tenova have launched a trial to produce steel products using hydrogen on July 3.

This trial will last six months and it will help the companies evaluate the reliability of this source in decarbonizing steel production. Snam will provide an alkaline electrolysis system to produce hydrogen onsite at the TenarisDalmine plant in Dalmine, northern Italy. The hydrogen produced will be used to fuel a burner designed by Tenova and installed there so that Tenaris can use it to produce hot rolled seamless pipes.

This collaboration is part of Snam’s effort to guide industrial companies towards their decarbonization path.
