Steel production in Argentina declines in June

The Argentine chamber of the steel industry, Acero Argentino (AA), informed that the country’s crude steel production has reached 274,800 mt in June, against 312,100 mt in May.

Under the same comparative basis, the production of HRC increased by 0.4 percent to 127,500 mt, the production of CRC increased by 1.0 percent to 82,000 mt and the production of long products declined by 13.5 percent to 106,500 mt.

When compared to June 2023, the numbers show crude steel production declining by 35.0 percent, HRC production declining by 35.1 percent, CRC production declining by 29.0 percent and long products production declining by 51.0

According to the AA, the civil construction sector of the country is showing an increase of activities estimated at 9.74 percent from May to June, while the production of automotive sector increased by 16.7 percent.

The sectors of agriculture machinery and energy are showing marginal signs of recovery, while the sector of domestic appliances was not showing signs of recovery in June, but there are positive perspectives derived from new credit lines to be implemented during the next months.

Argentina remains facing a high level of inflation and a decline of its economic activity, regardless of the program of stabilization of the economy implemented by the government.
