TCUD: Turkey’s steel exports and imports both increase in November

Crude steel production in Turkey increased by 0.7 percent year on year in November this year to 3.01 million mt, according to a statement released by the Turkish Steel Producers’ Association (TCUD). In the January-November period this year, Turkey produced 33.9 million mt of crude steel, up by 11.2 percent year on year. Turkey ranked eighth in the list of the world’s largest crude steel producers in November.

In November this year, Turkey’s finished steel consumption rose by 14.3 percent to 3.62 million mt, while in the first 11 months this year its finished steel consumption decreased by 0.3 percent to 34.98 million mt, both year on year.

In the given month, Turkey’s steel exports increased by 13.6 percent to 967,266 mt, while the value of these exports rose by 15.4 percent to $709.05 million, year on year. In the January-November period, the country’s steel exports increased by 29.1 percent to 12.1 million mt, while the value of these exports rose by 18.4 percent to $8.86 billion, both year on year. The country's flat and long steel exports in the first 11 months totaled 5.31 million mt and 6.48 million mt, respectively.

In November, Turkey’s steel imports increased by 46.6 percent to 1.8 million mt, while the value of these imports moved up by 19.9 percent to $1.2 billion, both year on year. In the first 11 months this year, the country’s steel imports decreased by 3.1 percent to 13.7 million mt, while the value of these imports fell by 13.0 percent to $11.9 billion, both year on year. In the January-November period, the country's flat and long steel imports totaled 7.4 million mt and 1.2 million mt, respectively.

In the January-November period, Turkey’s steel export to import ratio increased to 74.2 percent from 54.5 percent in the same period last year.
