Turkey exhausts some of its EU quotas for Q1

Within the first 10 days of January, in the new EU quota period between January 1 and March 31 some of the import quotas for certain steel products allocated for Turkey and certain countries under the “other countries” category have been exhausted, while over 49 percent of quotas for some steel products have been used up.

Turkey has exceeded the quotas of 15,543 mt for organic coated sheets and 97,299 mt for hollow sections, with 1,095 mt and 259 mt of the given products respectively waiting at EU ports. The country has also exhausted the quota of 14,767 mt for large welded tubes (25B), while it has used up 68.01 percent and 56.67 percent respectively of its quotas of 116,423 mt for wire rod and 48,889 mt for gas pipes.

Looking at the quotas for HRC and wire rod allocated for some countries under “other countries”, Taiwan has exhausted its quota of 138,766 mt for HRC, while Algeria used up all of its quota of 18,012 mt for wire rod. Egypt has only used up 62.42 percent of its quota of 138,766 mt for HRC and 82.60 percent of its quota of 18,012 mt for wire rod

Meanwhile, the “other countries” category has used up 88.69 percent, 62.99 percent and 69.44 percent of its quotas of 466,862 mt for metallic coated sheets (4A), 5,096 mt for stainless bars and light sections and 6,423 mt for large welded tubes (25B), respectively. India has used 64.47 percent, 66.07 percent and 65.21 percent of its quotas of 53,046 mt for metallic coated sheets (4A), 77,727 mt for organic coated sheets and 5,815 mt for seamless stainless tubes, respectively, while only using up 49.66 percent of its quota of 22,514 mt for organic coated sheets allocated for Taiwan has been exhausted. In addition, China has used up 98.41 percent and 72.86 percent of its quotas of 8,358 mt large welded tubes (25B) and 7,984 mt for other welded pipes, respectively.
