Turkey has introduced new import duties on products under the new codes added for PPGI products in its update on the Turkish Customs Tariff Schedule Divided into Statistical Positions, according to a statement published in the country’s Official Gazette. The new duties came into force as of January 1, 2025.

Accordingly, PPGI products under code 7225.99.00.00.21 (thickness not exceeding 0.30 mm) and 7225.99.00.00.22 (thickness exceeding 0.30 mm) will be subject to 20 percent duty, while the products under code 7225.99.00.00.29 will be subject to duty at 15 percent. In addition, import duty will be applied at zero percent for direct imports of grain-oriented silicon electrical steel by mills manufacturing transformer cores and transformers using the product as input.

Except for the given products, no change in duty rates was reported.

At the beginning of last year, a 20 percent duty was imposed on imports of galvanized strip and PPGI, both with widths less than 500 mm, while the duty on stainless cold rolled coil has risen from the previous eight percent to 12 percent, as SteelOrbis previously reported. In addition, the current import duty on alloyed HRC and HRC imported by re-rolling companies and welded pipe producers is at 13 percent, the duty on non-alloy HRC and CRC imported by white goods producers is at 15 percent, while non-alloy CRC imports are subject to 17 percent duty.
