Attending the Climate Development Summit held in Ankara, Ömer Bolat, Turkey’s trade minister, has stated that the government has adopted a net zero carbon target by 2053 and aims to put the Green Deal Action Plan into effect amid the start of the transformation of global trade due to the standards and regulations for decarbonization, according to media reports.
Stating that the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is of great importance for Turkey, Mr. Bolat noted that 41 percent of the country’s total exports are to the EU. Expressing that the Turkish government has developed some support mechanisms to facilitate Turkish exporters’ compliance with the CBAM, the minister stated that, within the scope of the "responsible" Responsibility Support Program, Turkish exporters are guided to reduce their carbon footprint, digitalize their processes and increase their energy efficiency. In addition, the Ministry of Commerce will provide a total grant of up to TRY 10 million ($283,368) for five years for the expenses the exporters will encounter in the transformation process.
