In the first two months of this year, finished steel output in Turkey increased by 20.7 percent year on year to 6.085 million mt, according to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

As stated in the TCUD report, in the given period Turkey's long product output totaled 3.673 million mt, up 25.4 percent, and its flat product output moved up by 14.2 percent to 2.412 million mt, both on year-on-year basis.

Finished steel consumption in Turkey in the January-February period of this year increased by 46.3 percent year on year to 5.067 million mt.

In the first two months of this year, consumption of long products in Turkey rose by 47 percent to 2.116 million mt, while flat product consumption was up by 45.7 percent to 2.951 million mt, both year on year.

Considering industrial stoppages and the lull in construction activity, Turkey is expected to see a significant fall in consumption in March and especially in April. In the meantime, the operations of many rebar lines in Turkey have been suspended temporarily, also no one is working at full pace in the re-rolling segment.
