Turkey's scrap imports up 7.9 percent in September from August

In September this year, Turkey's steel scrap import volume increased by 7.9 percent month on month to 1.67 million metric tons, down 22.7 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of this import volume totaled $633.32 million, up 9.3 percent month on month and decreasing by 20.6 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in the January-September period of this year Turkey's steel scrap import volume increased by 0.2 percent to 14.68 million mt, while the value of these imports totaled $5.55 billion, down 0.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis.

In the first nine months, Turkey imported 2.98 million mt of steel scrap from the US, down 26.57 percent year on year, though the US still ranked first among Turkey's steel scrap import sources in the given period, ahead of Russia which supplied 2.23 million mt of steel scrap to Turkey, up 58.18 percent year on year. In September alone, Turkey's steel scrap imports from the US decreased by 28.62 percent to 371,041 mt, while imports from Russia totaled 223,666 mt, down 6.28 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
