Turkish steel pipe producers to appeal against US antidumping duties

Commenting on the US Department of Commerce’s decision on the implementation of the antidumping duty on imports of welded line pipe from Turkey, Ahmet Erciyas, chairman of the Turkish Steel Pipe Manufacturers Association (CEBID), has stated, “The antidumping duty rates ranging between 6.66 percent and 22.95 percent will create significant problems in the export of line pipe.”

The CEBID chairman stated that they presume there is a mistake in the calculation of the duty rates, because the given rates are too high, and he went on to say, “The reasoned decision has not been announced yet. After the announcement, our members will object to this decision.” Mr. Erciyas also recalled that, after the objections to high antidumping duty rates for standard pipe, hollow section and drilling pipe in the past, the rates were reduced to very low levels.

According to CEBID, in 2014 Turkey’s steel pipe exports to the US totaled 331,000 mt, accounting for 18 percent of Turkey’s total steel pipe exports. The exports of the standard pipe subject to the antidumping investigation totaled 78,000 mt in 2014, while the export value amounted to $94.7 million.
