In 2024, Ukraine’s flat steel exports rose by 36.0 percent to 1.64 million mt, while its semi-finished steel exports amounted to 1.92 million mt, up by 53.0 percent, both on year-on-year basis, according to the data released by the Ukrainian Steel Association Ukrmetallurgprom.
In the given year, section exports came to 614,000 mt, moving up by 16.3 percent from 2023.
Meanwhile, in 2024 domestic steel consumption fell by 6.3 percent year on year to 3.29 million mt, of which 1.24 million mt was accounted for by imports.
In the same year, Ukraine imported 983,500 mt of flat steel, up by 8.3 percent year on year, while its section imports grew by 14.9 percent compared to the previous year to 232,600 mt. The country’s semi-finished steel exports in 2024 amounted to 19,300 mt, compared to 10,300 mt recorded in 2023.
The main export markets for Ukraine in 2024 were the EU-27 (70.7%), Africa (10.1%), and other European countries (8.3%), while the main importers of Ukrainian steel were other European countries (51.8%), the EU-27 (27.7%), and Asia (19.2%).
