Union that blocks ArcelorMittal Mexico declares strike at AHMSA unit

The Mining Union headed by Congressman Napoleón Gómez Urrutia of the official party, declared a strike at a mining unit of Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA), for “alleged violations of the collective bargaining contract”. It is the same union that, according to two courts, is illegally blocking an ArcelorMittal Mexico mine and blast furnace.

“The Federal Labor Court of Collective Affairs, based in Mexico City, notified AHMSA and the National Union of Mineworkers, of the legal outbreak of a Strike at the Hércules Unit of its subsidiary Minera del Norte (Minosa), derived from alleged violations of the collective bargaining agreement,” AHMSA informed the stock market.

Hércules is one of AHMSA's main assets because it operates open pit and underground deposits that supply iron ore to the company.

For industry insiders, the strike in Hércules bogs down the proposal of the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who, facing the end of his presidential term in three months, commissioned his successor Claudia Sheinbaum to take over as President of the Republic on October 1st.
