US rig count decreases week-on-week while Canadian rig count increases

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending on January 17, 2025, the US rotary rig count decreased by four to 580.

The number of rigs drilling for gas decreased by two to 98 and the number of rigs drilling for oil decreased by two to 478. The overall US rig count is down by 40 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by 13 to 229 rigs in the week ending January 17. The Canadian rig count was up by six compared to the same reporting period in the previous year.
