Wire rod exports from Brazil reached 36,900 mt in December against 8,700 mt in November.
The exports of December were destined to the US (29,400 mt at $769/mt), the Dominican Republic (3,200 mt at $551/mt), South American countries (2,800 mt at $685/mt), and Canada (1,500 mt at $831/mt), all FOB conditions.
The exporters were ArcelorMittal (32,400 mt at $772/mt), Gerdau (4,400 mt at $557/mt), and Simec (100 mt at $535/mt).
Meanwhile, Brazil imported 18,800 mt of wire rod in December against 13,400 mt in November.
The origins of the imports were China (12,200 mt at $549/mt), Egypt (5,000 mt at $598/mt), Russia (1,100 mt at $571/mt), and Germany (500 mt at $923/mt).
The decline of the volume imported was expected, as 31 percent of a quota of 53,000 mt was left unused until December 15, 2024, possibly reflecting the lack of interest in clearing customs for material already stockpiled in Brazilian ports, due to the recent devaluation of the BRL in relation to the US, although the quota can be used until January 31, 2025.
