Coated and CRC prices in Turkey surge, buyers still hesitant

Turkey’s flat steel re-rolling companies have raised their coated and cold-rolled steel prices quite significantly and in a few separate steps from last week, citing high import hot rolled coil (HRC) prices from China and increased domestic feedstock offers. Local buyers, however, are not in a rush to book for December production coated and CR steel, being uncertain of the sustainability of the current price trend. As a result, according to sources, Turkish re-rollers are not eager to provide discounts for new production, but are more flexible in their current offers from stocks.

Currently, domestic hot dip galvanized (HDG) coil prices in Turkey for 0.5 mm Z100 are at $820-840/mt ex-works levels and above, up from $780-820/mt ex-works in the middle of last week. According to sources, the Z60-70 material is available at $805-820/mt ex-works levels. In the meantime, the general price level for Z100 stock material is assessed at $810-820/mt. However, the export Z100 HDG price levels are at $765-800/mt FOB at present, up $15-20/mt over the past week.

Turkey’s pre-painted galvanized iron (PPGI) prices are now at $960-1,000/mt ex-works, up from $930-960/mt ex-works seen early last week.

In addition, most Turkish re-rolling companies are offering CRC at $725-740/mt ex-works, up $10-20/mt over the past week, SteelOrbis has learned.
