Over the past week, most Turkish merchant bar re-rollers have raised their official export prices by $10/mt to $610-630/mt FOB against the backdrop of the relatively better demand in the European Union. Currently, official ex-Turkey equal angle offers are standing at $610-630/mt FOB, for late September-October shipment. According to sources, a few re-rollers are applying aggressive pricing to generate sales and are even quoting at $600/mt FOB.
The SteelOrbis daily Turkish import billet reference price stands at $465-490/mt CFR for now, versus $480-495/mt CFR last week.
"The ongoing freight crisis to Latin America means instability for possible sales to this region, while demand seems better in the MENA region," one source commented. "Demand was fairly sluggish in August. I hope September will be a better month for possible merchant bar sales," another source commented. As the new quota round will begin on October 1, a few Turkish merchant bar re-rollers are offering at around €620/mt ($690/mt) CFR Italy, equal to approximately $640/mt FOB depending on the port, SteelOrbis has heard.
