Chinese domestic steel section prices have mostly followed a slightly downward trend during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have indicated minor fluctuations during the past seven days. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,310/mt ($464/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,330/mt ($467/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,410/mt ($478/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market has been sluggish due to the off-season and adverse weather conditions. Given the weakness of demand, most traders have been willing to reduce their quoted prices slightly in order to close more deals. Prices of billet and raw materials have only indicated minor fluctuations, providing some support for steel section prices. As for the week ahead, considering the weakness of the demand side, it is believed that steel section prices will continue their slightly soft trend.
