The sole Romanian rebar producer and local traders have kept their prices stable over the past week, even though demand in Romania's long steel market has slackened further since most buyers are not interested in purchasing due to the approach of the end of the year and the Christmas holidays. Prices are expected to remain stable until the end of the holidays. “Due to the upcoming holidays, with most business closed from Friday until the beginning of January, demand is very low,” a trader told SteelOrbis.
According to reports, the sole Romanian producer has kept its rebar offers at €580-590/mt ex-works, while traders’ prices are unchanged at €580-595/mt ex-warehouse, both week on week.
Similarly, nothing has changed in the Romanian wire rod market since the outlook has remained weak, with prices stable at roughly €580-590/mt ex-warehouse.
Meanwhile, in the import segment, some rumors have circulated that Turkey has sold 5,000 mt of rebar to Romania at $560-565/mt FOB, but this claim has not been verified by the time of publication. Currently, Turkish mills' rebar export offers have been quoted at $565-575/mt FOB, and, with the current exchange rate at €1 = $1.05, prices for delivery to Romania are at €560-575/mt CFR. Greece, on the other hand, has offered rebar and wire rod to Romania at €620-625/mt CFR and €610-615/mt CFR, respectively. Furthermore, Bulgaria has maintained its offers at €600–620/mt CPT to Romania this week, while Egypt is anticipated to announce offers next week.
