Chinese domestic manganese ore prices have continued to decrease during the past week, still declining by large margins. The mainstream quotations of Australian lump ore with 46 percent Mn content currently stand at $6.86/dmtu (RMB 49/dmtu) at China’s Tianjin port, while offers of lump ore of 48 percent Mn content are at $6.99/mtu (RMB 50/dmtu). Also at Tianjin port, quotations for 44 percent grade Mn ore from Gabon are at $6.72/dmtu (RMB 48/dmtu), while offers of South African lump ore of 38 percent Mn content are at $4.97/dmtu (RMB 35.5/dmtu).
Overall trading activity in the Chinese manganese ore market has been at very low levels in the past week. Downstream manganese alloy production has continued to fall, with demand for manganese ore declining as well. Foreign manganese ore producers’ quoted prices have followed a stable trend. As for the week ahead, it is believed that manganese ore prices may indicate small decreases.
