The leading Japanese EAF steel producer Tokyo Steel has announced a JPY 500-1,000/mt price cut in domestic scrap purchase prices. As a result of the recent three reductions in its purchase prices, the producer had decreased its H2 grade purchase prices by JPY 1,000-1,500/mt in total, while its shindachi scrap prices have also been reduced by JPY 1,000-1,500/mt, both week on week.
Tokyo Steel’s general range for H2 grade scrap has declined to JPY 48,000-51,000/mt ($312-331/mt) depending on the mill. Due to the appreciation of the Japanese yen over the past week, dollar-based prices have decreased by $7-8/mt.
Shindachi scrap prices of Tokyo Steel have also moved down to JPY 49,000-52,500/mt ($318-341/mt). As a result, the dollar-based prices have moved down by $7-8/mt. All prices are delivered and effective as of July 27.
