Last week at the Alacero Summit 2024 in Buenos Aires, Paolo Rocca, the CEO of the Techint group, Maximo Vedoya, said, “the steel industry of Latin America can undoubtedly compete with the economic blocs of the western world, as we share values and principles."
Vedoya used a soccer expression to refer to China, stating that the competition with that country is not possible because “the playing field is not level”, referring to alleged dumping prices for the steel products exported by China to the Latin America.
In his view, “Latin America can play a very relevant role in the repositioning of industrial value chains, in particular for the steel industry, if we manage to build broad alliances with our clients and suppliers."
He also added, “there is no future of expansion and transformation for our sector if we do not manage to integrate our interests with the interests of our entire value chain.”
