Turkey’s ship scrap market declines amid general downtrend of scrap prices

As of today, August 15, Turkey’s ship scrap market has moved downwards on the upper end of the price range, following the trend of prices in the import scrap segment. The general price range for ship scrap stands at $375-380/mt, $10/mt lower than the previous levels of $375-390/mt. There is significant pressure on scrap prices in Turkey and this pressure is also taking its toll on the ship scrap segment. There may be further declines in Turkey’s ship scrap market, depending on the movement of prices in the import scrap segment.

In Turkey’s Izmir region, the ship scrap purchase prices of local steelmakers are as follows:
