Turkish ferrous and non-ferrous industry posts increased exports for October amid higher demand

According to the data issued by the Mediterranean Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters Association (ADMIB), the Turkish ferrous and non-ferrous industry’s exports in October this year increased by 15.6 percent to $1.1 billion, while the country’s steel exports totaled $1.3 billion, down by 4.3 percent, both year on year. The two industries’ share in the country’s total exports in the given month came to 10 percent.

Germany ranked first among the destinations for Turkey’s iron and steel exports in October with $189 million. Germany was followed by Italy with $169 million and Iraq with $119 million. Looking at the top 10 markets, Turkey’s iron and steel exports to Italy, the UK and Bulgaria increased by 65 percent, 34 percent and 29 percent, respectively.

Commenting on the export performance of the Turkish iron and steel industry in October, Fuat Tosyalı, ADMIB president, stated that the higher demand from target markets such as Europe and Africa in October accelerated the growth of the Turkish iron and steel industry. Mr. Tosyalı noted that the industry is expected to achieve a strong performance in the remaining two months of the year.

Meanwhile, in the given period, ferrous and non-ferrous metal exports of producers in Turkey’s Mediterranean region increased by 6.4 percent year on year to $65 million, while steel exports from the region reached $239 million, with a record increase of 56 percent year on year.
